Seasons Going North

A sudden drop in temperature,
and suddenly, an autumn smell, like smoke,
a desire to trample something moist underfoot,
a padding through the woods,
decomposers wiling away the hours,
more desire to become enslaved again,
working while days circle back, while some hours pass,
smoke blends in with the sky with the air full with cool,
with a sudden drop in temperature,
like an incantation.
